GoldenEye 007 Preview

Thursday, September 2nd, 2010

We were rather shocked at E3 when Nintendo showed off a new GoldenEye game. It’s been many years since the original Nintendo 64 Rare version changed first person shooters on consoles forever. Instead of Rare, Activision is taking the reigns the hope of recapturing the magic with Daniel Craig instead of Pierce Brosnan. How will it pan out? We’ll have to wait until November 2nd to find out. Until that time, check out our preview below.

Xbox Live Price Increase

Thursday, September 2nd, 2010

By now you may have heard, but if you have not and you’re an Xbox Live Gold Member, well this is something you’ll probably want to hear. Microsoft has announced that as of November 1, 2010 the price of its Xbox Live Gold Membership Fee will increase $10 annually with one and three month subscriptions also going up. Below is a breakdown of the new pricing plan for the different subscription bases

1 Month Subscription……….$9.99
3 Month Subscription……..$24.99
1 Year Subscription………..$59.99

“Since launching Xbox LIVE in 2002 we have continually added more content and entertainment experiences for our members, while keeping the price the same. We’re confident that when the new pricing takes effect, an Xbox LIVE Gold membership will continue to offer the best value in the industry.

However, we do want to thank our loyal members and give you the opportunity to lock in your current price with an additional discount, so now would be a good time to renew your subscription.”

-Microsoft Spokesperson Larry Herb

Well what do you guys think, does this bother you? Was it inevitable? Switching to PSN?

Stardock CEO gives another Elemental update

Thursday, September 2nd, 2010

Filed under:

Even though he’s supposed to be on vacation, Stardock CEO Brad Wardell managed to find an Internet connection to give an Elemental development update. The release last week of Stardock’s turn-based strategy game was not without its issues and Wardell continues to state his and Stardock’s future support of the title, saying, “As some of you know, most of our company’s revenue doesn’t come from developing games. Even if the game didn’t sell another copy, we would still continue our update schedule.”

Wardell states that a massive 1.1 patch will be released later this month with Wardell saying, “This will be a pretty substantial change. In particular, character creation, magic (think, shared mana pools).” A “more traditional” for the game will also be released and the release of the game’s Book 2: Magesa will be released in a “mega” update later this fall instead of an expansion pack. Finally he hopes reviewers for the game won’t wait to review Elemental for upcoming patches, saying, ” … if that version of the game is considered flawed then my view is that Stardock should suffer the consequences for that.”

Coinciding with the news that Call of Duty: Black Ops will have a kind of in-game currency to purchase bigger and better weapons, the game will also let you gamble it away in a multiplayer mode called Wager Match. As seen in this demonstration video, there will be a couple different Wager Match, but they all drop you into challenging scenarios that require a strong proficiency with all the game’s weapons, especially the pistol and knife. Players will have a chance to win big or go broke when Call of Duty: Black Ops releases on November 9th.

OnLive’s free first year offer to end in 2010; 50 percent game sale this weekend

Thursday, September 2nd, 2010

Since launching last June the OnLive streaming PC/Mac gaming service continues to be the only way for many gamers with low hardware specs to play high-end PC games. Today the company revealed three new announcements for its service. First, the Founding Members program, which was scheduled to end on Labor Day, has now been extended to December 31. This means you still have a chance to use the OnLive service for free for one year with an optional second year at $4.95 a month.

Second, current OnLive users will get to purchase all of the games currently on the service (all 28 of them) at 50 percent off their normal prices this Labor Day weekend. That includes recently released games like Kane and Lynch 2 and Mafia 2. Finally, later in September OnLive will begin to support PCs and Macs with WiFi connections via a beta program. WiFi will be demoed for folks who attend PAX Prime this weekend.
