The fallout from last week’s GDC 2010 is still being felt as some embargos are being lifted on some hands-on previews that were handled during the show. The big one is the first real hands-on previews for Star Wars: The Old Republic and naturally our sister site Massively got a chance to get BioWare’s upcoming debut MMO out.
The preview, conducted at LucasArts‘ San Fransisco compound, let the press control a member of the game’s Trooper class in some PV3 missions. Massively liked what they played, saying, “This is a BioWare game on a LucasArts property, so you just know it’s going to be done right, and from what I’ve seen so far, it is done right.” With the title still at least a year away from coming out, that’s certainly encouraging.

In spite of — or maybe because of — this year’s San Francisco Game Developers Conference set an all-time record for attendance last week.
According to UBM TechWeb Game Network, the group who organized the conference, 18,250 attendees flooded the Moscone Convention center to meet with and learn from game developers. This is up over ten thousand from last year’s attendance, which hovered around 17,000.
These numbers are interesting as, being at the convention, it seemed the show had actually been scaled back this year. Clearly I was mistaken. Next year’s show may be even bigger — it’s already been scheduled to be held from Monday, February 28 to Friday, March 4.

As previously rumored, Bethesda Softworks is indeed publishing a new RPG from developer inXile Entertainment, the development studio founded by former Interplay head man Brian Fargo. The game is a fantasy-themed title called Hunted: The Demon’s Forge and it will be a third person game with a co-op bent.
Using Unreal Engine 3 as its graphical basis, the game’s storyline has its fantasy world invaded by creatures who are taking villiages away. It’s up to the two player characters, the mercenaries E’lara, (who liked ranged weapons) and Caddoc, (a master with the sword) to take on the horde of monsters. There are also magic spells in the game that will boost player skills. So far there is no release date announced for the game.

Do you see this, Zach? It’s a contest to win one of three copies of Deadly Premonition, each with a promotional poster. Wow, wouldn’t you like to win one of those, Zach? Unfortunately we can’t, so we’re going to have to give them to the Destructoid readers instead.
Here comes another contest, clear as a crisp spring morning. Destructoid has three copies of Deadly Premonition to give away, courtesy of the fine folk at Ignition. Each copy of this excellent horror/comedy game will come with a poster as well. Be the envy of all your friends next time you saunter into the Galaxy of Terror. It’ll be the region-locked 360 version, so obviously this can’t apply to readers outside of America.
In order to win, you need to perform a very simple task. You must F .. K in the coffee! What on Earth does that mean, exactly? It’s up to YOU to decide. Post proof of your FK’ing in the coffee to be in with a chance. If it’s a photo or video, make sure there is a Destructoid sign visible to prove your legitimacy.
Contest runs until the end of the week. With those incredibly vague entry conditions, I now leave you to work it out. Let’s go, Zach!
