How To Win Magic The Gathering Game
Today we are going to talk about Magic the Gathering Deck Building. We would discuss about the methodology of building a deck of your own that suits your strategies and style. So we are not giving deck examples here, but focus on how to build your very own deck. As I said there are infinite number of types of deck one can build, so the aim of this article is to give the reader a glimpse of the vast ocean of Magic the Gathering decks.
There is no upper limit for the number of cards that exist in a deck. And the number of combinations of cards is infinite. But all the decks do one purpose which is to defeat your opponent, to win the game and get the glory. So now we need to know the ways to win.
There are a number of ways in which you can defeat your enemies. First, you can hurt them with spells or creaures attacks to decrease their life counters which is 20 initially. Second, you can try to make all of his cards go to the graveyard and when he has no cards to draw, he loses. This method is difficult. Perhaps only Blue mana cards can help you do that. Third, some creatures have Poison abilities. When you attack with them, the other player gets 1 poison counter. When it goes up to 10, the player loses. It sounds cool, but it is really rare to happen. Because poisonous creatures are usually easily killed and there are not too many of them. Each successful poison attack gives only 1 poison counter. Compared to life counters, although every one has 20 to begin with, each attack can damage up to 12 or more life counters. So the poison method is too hard and should not be considered by beginners.
In conclusion, the first method (reducing life counters to 0 or less) is the main focus. To reduce opponent’s life counters to 0 or less, there are 4 methods: First, damaging player directly. But this is not the best method, since there’re usually many creatures on the Battlefield and even counting in Enchantment, there’re only a small number of spells exist that can hit player directly. Second, attacking opponent with Creatures in order to reduce one’s life counters. Third, control opponent so that he can’t work with his cards or can’t beat you. The last method, which is rarely used and basically only available to Blue Mana, is to make your opponent run out of his Magic cards.
Here I introduced four different ways to win. You can choose your favourite one or you can choose a few and build a deck according to your strategy.
