Five Quick and Easy Office Jokes
Right after April Fool’s day, the web is bombarded with photos of outrageous pranks done in workplaces across the world. A lot of of these jokes done require plenty of energy. There are those cubicals filled with packing peanuts, popcorn, or balloons. There are the offices where everything has been elaborately covered with aluminum foil, toilet paper, or newspaper. The problem with these pranks is that they take so much time and hard work to execute and once the work is unveiled, the joke is over.
Most of us don’t have the time required to wrap everything in a coworker’s office with aluminum foil. A more attractive option would be a prank we can prepare in a short time and the life of the prank lasts hours or days.
Here are five simple office pranks. The attractiveness of them is that they have the potential to last much longer than the shock of finding your office filled with packing peanuts.
1) This one is both quick and easy. It can be executed in seconds. Most displays will invert your screen with the Control + Alt + down arrow key combination. It can be quickly restored with the Control + Alt + up arrow key combination. In fact if you are up for some testing, you can use the right and left arrow keys in that combination for some 90 degree rotations.
2) Optical mice are also an easy target. Within each optical mouse is a high speed camera. You can vary the conduct of the mouse by modifying the optics of the mouse. This is done by placing a strip of transparent tape over the lens on the bottom of the mouse. This will produce a lethargic pointing device. Opaqe tape is also a possibility but will leave the mouse ineffective and you will get less mileage out of this prank.
3) Similar to playing with someone’s mouse, you can plug in the dongle of a wireless mouse into a coworker’s computer. Then with the corresponding mouse, you can remotely control the cursor on your co-worker’s screen. This is best done if the computer has a USB port in the back of the computer where the new dongle is not viewed. Another variation on this would be to plug in a wireless keyboard. Then you can contribute to the keyboard input of your co-worker’s computer.
4) The computer monitor is also an easy target for hacking. There are a variety of pranks that can be carried out but undoubtedly the least complicated is to adjust the brightness down with the buttons until the screen is completely black. The clueless target will try out all sorts of things to “wake” the computer before playing with the power cable and power switch. Unless they are someone who frequently adjusts the brightness of his or her monitors, it will take them time before the genuine solution emerges.
5) Telephones are also great targets for co-worker pranks. If you can disassemble the headset, an easy hack is to cover the holes of the speaking portion with tape. The victim will then hear the caller but not be heard. The victim then repeats all he or she says louder and louder. If you don’t have time to take apart the headset or if it just isn’t feasible, you may be able to unplug the headset at the phone base and tape the end of the cord to the back of the phone base giving the impression that it is still hooked up. Use strong tape. Duct tape works.
Any of those five pranks are easy to pull off and require little technical skill.
