Microsoft Offers Halo: Reach Beta, Free MS Points To "Loyal" Halo Players [Xbox Live]

Thursday, March 4th, 2010 |

Original Xbox games will no longer be playable over Xbox Live as of April 15, but Microsoft is easing the pain of Halo 2 players by offering “avid” players free stuff and a shot at the Halo: Reach beta.

Several Kotaku readers have received word from the Xbox Live Team, breaking the bad news about the death of original Xbox game support on Live, but throwing in some good to make up for it. To thank gamers for being “loyal” Xbox Live customers, the Xbox 360 maker is giving out free three-month Gold memberships and 400 Microsoft Points to spend on the game, add-on or Avatar clothing item of their choice.

Microsoft is also extending the invitation to participate in the Halo: Reach multiplayer beta, “because you’ve been so loyal to Halo.” The e-mail certainly seems to indicate that a copy of Halo 3: ODST won’t be required to access the Reach beta, good news for the Halo 2 player resistant to dropping cash on new games.

Thanks to Blueishraptor and The Quality Jeverage for the heads up!

Xbox 360 Repair Guide Info

Tuesday, March 2nd, 2010 |

I bet you have seen yourself in this situation more than once with your Xbox 360: you are playing your Xbox 360 without a hitch when suddenly it goes berserk. By this time, you will be on your knees hoping that you do not get the dreaded red ring of death but you still do anyway.

Before I start with the solution, let us delve deeper on the problem. The red ring of death is also known as the 3 red light problem. Basically, you will be able to notice that your Xbox 360 is flashing 3 red lights instead of the 4 green ones that denote that your Xbox 360 is working fine.

This problem is indicative of a general hardware failure or a core digital failure. This problem does not go without a warning. Before you get the dread 3 red lights, you will first go through a freeze-up. During this period, your screen will display a checkerboard or pinstripe design accompanied by a weird, static sound.

Finally, you can solve this problem by having your Xbox 360 sent in to a Microsoft service center every time it decides to go whacko.

But not a lot of gamers are keen on this option for obvious reasons. Sending your game console to Microsoft can leave a huge dent on your wallet. And it takes weeks before you can get your Xbox 360 back.

The other solution is to repair your Xbox 360 yourself. This route is pretty simple, cost efficient and you only need a 3 red light fix repair guide. What you should expect to get with your 3 red light fix repair guide is a pdf file together with a few video files. You can also get online support from the guide\’s website.

3 red light fix repair guide includes written instructions that are very clear and easy to follow so that it won\’t take you that long to understand all the procedures. You will find the pictures and the illustrations helpful as well.

But if things are just too complicated, you can always watch the videos that demonstrate the process step by step.

But you need to figure out how to fix your Xbox 360 the best way.

You can always send your Xbox 360 to Microsoft every time it does through a phase. But not a lot of gamers take this route. First reason is that sending your Xbox 360 to Microsoft can really put a dent in your wallet.

The very basic thing that you need is just an Xbox 360 repair guide which you buy right off the internet. And there are so many repair guides to choose from.

Choosing An Xbox 360 Repair Guide

Tuesday, February 23rd, 2010 |

If you try and search in online forums, you will find out that there are so many gamers who are very much confused on how they can bring their xbox 360s back to life after crashing.

They complain about how they have shelled out so much just to have their game consoles gather dust.

What is so wonderful with the internet is the fact that every time you rant about your problem, you will always find a number of people offering solutions. The only solution that I did not see in all the forums that I have searched was the one involving Microsoft. If you send your xbox 360 to Microsoft, it will take weeks for you to get your console back and you\’ll have a huge dent in your pocket as well.

If you really want your xbox 360 to start working again without having to spend so much cash, then try repairing your xbox 360 yourself. You can find a number of xbox 360 repair guides in the internet just by searching for them. Some of them can even get your xbox running in less than an hour.

The thing that you have to consider when purchasing an xbox 360 repair guide is that it must be easy for you to follow all the instructions. There are different guides that will take you days before you understand the instructions. So make sure that the guide you wish to purchase includes pictures and illustrations to help you through each step.

The better guides always come with videos along with the pdf files. Videos work well with written instructions because you can see how the steps are carried out through the demonstrations.

But if things are just too complicated, you can always ask help from their online support.

It is very important that you read the xbox 360 repair guide from cover to cover before you even start doing anything to your xbox 360.

Once you know the steps, you can repair your console with much ease. Other guides only offer troubleshooting information for 3 red light while other cover various problems.

Does Just Cause 2 Even Need A Story? [Clips]

Friday, February 19th, 2010 |

When you can tie a man to the back of a fighter jet and take to the sky with him screaming behind you, does your game really need a plot?

Developer Avalanche is obviously trying too hard. There is really no need for you to have a compelling narrative in a game where I can launch my enemies into mountainsides via a fighter jet. In fact, giving me a story might just be too overwhelming. Look at my time with Grand Theft Auto IV. I spent 10 hours dicking around town, completing maybe five or six missions, passing the remaining time by running all over the place causing mayhem. By the time I got back to the story I found it far too boring to continue.

Just give me wide-open spaces, some stupid enemies to screw with, and a plot that consists of nothing more complicated than X hero goes to Y place for Z reason.

Hideo Kojima And Yoichi Wada, Talking. On Twitter. [Xbox]

Wednesday, February 17th, 2010 |

At the 2008 E3 gaming expo in Los Angeles, Square Enix boss Yoichi Wada appeared on stage and tapped Microsoft exec Don Mattrick on the shoulder. At the 2009 E3, Hideo Kojima did the same. But why?

Messaging via Twitter, Wada asked Kojima if the now infamous E3 shoulder tap was something he was put up to. Kojima replied that it was decided to do something similar to what Wada did the previous year — a “sneaking-style” shoulder tap. To which Wada replied with a MGS style “!” and some lulz.

Kojima then asked if Wada had been asked to do the shoulder tap. “Yes, during rehearsal,” the exec said. Wada was told that it would feel more natural if it was choreographed in. According to Wada, “It’s unnatural!!”

It was the same for Kojima, who replied, “Ditto for me, during rehearsal.” Sounds like Microsoft made a similar suggestion!

Previously, Wada talked about the stage directions he got from Microsoft staff. The takeaway? If you want to look like a goober, be sure to appear on stage at Microsoft’s E3 press conference. It’s guaranteed!

Toy Story 3 Game Delves Deeper Into The Toy Box [Game Announce]

Tuesday, February 16th, 2010 |

While a portion of Disney Interactive’s video game adaptation will follow the events of the animated movie, its Toy Box mode will allow players to create their own adventures using the franchises iconic characters.

Props to developer Avalanche Software for thinking outside of the toy box. Or inside of the Toy Box. However you put it, adding an interactive sand box feature to the Toy Story 3 video game goes above and beyond what we’ve come to expect from movie tie-ins.

While the movie deals with children growing up and abandoning their childhood playthings, Toy Box mode is about recapturing the magic of sitting on your bedroom floor with a pile of plastic representations of cowboys, space men, and aliens, imagining grand adventures.

“Toy Story 3: The Video Game addresses a fact understood by every kid: imagination is what truly brings toys to life,” said John Blackburn, vice president and general manager of Avalanche Software. “That’s really what a toy box is about. We remember that kind of play from our own childhood, and it’s where we began as game designers. With this title, we want to encourage and reward creativity in others.”

It sounds like an excellent example of going beyond the source material, in a way that’s wholly appropriate to the film series’ themes.

Toy Story 3 will be arriving in stores on June 15th for the Wii, PlayStation 3, PC, Xbox 360, DS, and PSP.

How Xbox Live Works On Windows Phones 7 Series [Xbox Live]

Monday, February 15th, 2010 |

As expected, Microsoft’s Steve Balmer announced Xbox Live support for the upcoming Windows Phone 7 series at the Mobile World Congress, but what exactly will Xbox Live users be able to do on their phones?

According to the official press release, not all that much. Accessing Xbox Live through the Windows Phone 7 Games hub will allow you to collect achievements, building your Gamerscore on the go, check out Xbox Live leaderboards, and manage your friends list. You’ll be able to play certain turn-based games, though not in real-time – one player takes a turn, and then waits for the other to receive it and respond. And you’ll also be able to look at your Xbox Live avatar, which you can do with any phone with a web-browser right now anyway.

“Windows Phone 7 Series was built from the ground up with entertainment in mind, and its unique design allowed us to bring some of the best gaming and community features of Xbox LIVE to the Windows mobile platform,” said Ron Pessner, general manager of Xbox LIVE Mobile. “It has always been our vision to expand the Xbox LIVE service to connect people to their games, entertainment and friends wherever they go, and the launch of Windows Phone 7 Series is an important step toward that goal.”

Mind you he says it’s a “step toward that goal.” Hopefully that means that we’ll eventually have much more to be excited about as far as Windows phones and Xbox Live are concerned.

Check out a video of the Windows Phone 7 Series in action below.

Halo 2 Maps, Original Xbox DLC Returns To Xbox Live [Bungie]

Thursday, February 11th, 2010 |

Microsoft’s plans to end Xbox Live support for original Xbox games had an unfortunate early affect — the removal of all downloadable content from Live for those older Xbox titles. The good news? That DLC is back.

That means that your old Splinter Cell or Halo 2 downloadable content is once again accessible, the data having been “lovingly restored,” according to developer Bungie. That also means your crippled Halo 2 online experience should be righted, with plenty of opportunity to get in some practice before Bungie sends off its seminal Xbox shooter.
