A Halo 3:ODST Review

Written on December 9, 2009 – 5:32 am | by Jay Cooper |

Halo 3: ODST is a video game where players are able to maneuver through a war that takes place in the 26th century. This war is waged between humans and various alien races. The humans are commanded by the United Nations Space Command, while the aliens form what is known as the Covenant. This Halo version is a continuation of the storyline from Halo 2 and was created two years from the release of Halo 3. ODST stands for “Orbital Drop Shock Troopers”, which were first introduced in Halo 2.

The setting of this game is in the 26th century, where humans and aliens are still at war. The United Nations Space Command is in charge of the humans and their alien enemies are call the Covenant. The Rookie is the main player and he has a squad of 5 teammates to assist with missions. The entire team enters into their HEVs, or Human Entry Vehicles, and prepare to drop through the atmosphere. They are to head to the ship belonging to the Covenant, but a teammate had changed the trajectory on the HEVs.

This change caused the alien ship to jump into hyperspace, triggering a shockwave that hits the group of HEVs. The Rookie ends up in a collision course with another HEV, due to this shockwave.

Along the way to find out where his squadmates are, the Rookie comes across clues of the exploits of his squad. There is a whole slew of rescues, shootings, missions, and a couple of new characters are introduced along the way.

This wave then causes the Rookie to collide with another teammate and to become unconscious. After six hours of unconsciousness, the Rookie wakes to find all his teammates missing. Once the search begins for absent teammates, that’s when the game truly takes shape.

The creative group at Bungie felt the ODSTs hadn’t really been a large part of any story. Although it was originally supposed to be a small project, it ended up becoming a full-sized game and was top seller worldwide among Xbox 360 games.

When creating this game, the composer of the musical score decided to not use the traditional Halo themes. Instead, he moved more towards a softer jazz sound, giving a whole new feel to the atmosphere. There were many positive reviews regarding this formation of the game, as well as to how the overall story was set up. Halo 3: ODST started off small but grew into an amazing adventure for Halo followers all over the world.

If you have not played any of the Halo series before, you might want to try Halo 3:ODST for rent, instead of buying it. You can find video game reviews and online video game rental service information at GameRentalCentral.
